The story of our prime minister and Jashodaben has all the elements of a bollywood blockbuster.
A marriage at a young age under family pressure. The guy, a rebel leaves shortly after marriage to pursue his life's ambition..The girl, nurses a broken heart but is still loyal to her husband and his aspirations for her.
As he passionately follows his dream of becoming a politician and achieves much success in his field of work, his wife dutifully follows the path of becoming a school teacher as per the desire expressed by her husband at some point of time.
As he rises up the echelons, she religiously prays for his success. She fasts, gives up rice and even her footwear as a sacrifice to appease gods so that good fortune surrounds him.
But he does not acknowledge her.. as he becomes a popular figure, the CM of a state, nobody is aware of his marital status or the wife who is tucked away in a village.
But then as one day when he is close to becoming the next prime minister... he reveals his long with held secret.. he reveals to the world that he has a wife. The whole nation is left bewidered. The media hog the lady to get somemore information, only to realise that the two have been living separately ever since a few months after marriage.
Over night , Jashodaben becomes a public figure but she shuns the limelight. After her husband becomes the prime minister following a resounding victory she sends him her best wishes and also a request to visit a holy shrine along with him.
The desire to visit the holy shrine may not have been fulfilled yet but she did get the z-security cover rightfully deserved by a prime minister s wife. Finally there is acknowledgement and acceptance.
A Bitter complex story... yet has it shades of sweetness

That story would be a little hard to understand in my culture here in the United States, as my culture does not practice arranged marriage. But other cultures here do. Some stories are universal. For me, I just shake my head wondering at the behavior of both the man and the woman.
:)I know the story must have sounded strange to you.. and it seems strange to the broadminded younger indian generation as well (including me).. but that's how it used to be earlier..arranged marriages at a very young age, to a partner chosen by the parents and at times you only met your life partner for the first time after the marriage!! However now things are changing, with parents allowing their children to find their own partners but as we say in India... you don't just get married to a person, you get married to the whole family so it's best to get it right :)
It really is bitter sweet isn't it? What is more amazing to me, is how, as both had been conditioned to obey the wishes of the elders, both came through in their own way for each other. Thanks, for sharing.

Arranged marriage is not for us, because we believed that love prevails than any other thing in this world. It's a nice concept of a story, you can write it as a book.
Hard to comprehend such a culture and the sacrifices to live a life without acknowledgement from her husband! It must be a lonely battle to come to terms with the life you have been dealt without the freedom to choose out for yourself. Thanks for sharing Stephen
Not a fan of love stories and even a hater of the so-called 'fixed marriage.' (heck, good thing here in this current Philippine society, that custom does not really exist much). But still, hmmm, kinda amazing, at least despite the odds, love really prevails.
At least, she got the public recognition as the wife of the soon to be prime minister. It's good that he did lost his support once he revealed the truth.
Good story. Thanks for sharing
If she writes her dream to visit the holy shrine, for sure she can make it happen. I don't know how it feels to become the wife of a prime minister.
I don't agree to fixed marriages but in some cases/cultures, it is inevitable, I guess
I don't think the story is admirable. For me it's a very sad story of two people whose lives were stolen by a cultural practice and who never could really be who they are.
I can not imagine a life like that. To first marry someone you don't now and then to be ignored? I know that some cultures have thrived on this practice, but if the females were given a voice would it really seem so happy?
Interesting story ! A concept we don't have but something that still happens in some cultures. What a battle, at least she got some recognition !
Truly bittersweet and I can imagine if it were to be made into a movie or a book..it would tear at the heartstrings
I guess he didn't completely forget about her. I hope they have kids so they could be together more.
Hmmmm... love story always gives us different feeling. Is this a based on real story?
Arranged marriage is not practice in our country. Nevertheless, i believe true love does exists no matter what circumstances are there.
Is this a real story? Because it sounds so surreal! I hope Jashodaben come to term with his marriage and give his wife the well-deserve respect (and hopefully) love one day...

i think married young is a bit too soon. an interesting story though
I am too gentle as a woman to go into politics because I consider it a dirty business for a lady. Anyways, it is amazing what a great triumph women can achieve as politicians. They possess inner strength and diplomacy that many men lack. A great story! I like the idea of arranged marriage, at least girls have no chance of remaining spinsters this way.
Now that the man has achieved his dream ambition, he should now divert his attention to the wife who sacrificed her own self-development for him, without due recognition. His fulfillment was her fulfillment. But now it is the man's turn to reciprocate her great sacrifice. - Fred
Lovely love story... But I dunno if arranged marriage is good or not.. Even marrying the one you love doesn't guarantee a good life..
After reading a lots of about NAMO, i don't now, is sth left from me?
Indeed bitter because they have long hide their relationship to the public yet sweet because at the end he still acknowledges her as his wife. They've been through a lot of sacrifice.
This is so sad, Great story, I hope I can see more of your post.
This is stuff great movies are made of... a bitter sweet love story gone awry... I'd love to see it made. Hope they reunite.
